Storage Tips
How to pack your storage unit.
Organise your unit in such a way that if you need to retrieve an item you can access it quickly and easily.
Use the drawers in your furniture to hold fragile items. Wrapping them in bubble wrap or newspaper.
To prevent boxes from collapsing when stacked fill them completely and stuff open spaces with newspaper.
Always place heavier boxes at the bottom and lighter ones on the top.
Do not store any items that are on our prohibited lists, such as combustibles, paint, chemicals, gas cylinders or perishable foods or anything living.
Make sure that all items are stored in strong boxes or covered with dust sheets or in polythene sheeting.
Break down large items, where possible, to save space.
Store electronics in their original boxes and set on the ground (use plastic sheeting) or on lower shelves.
Use bins to store garden tools such as shovels, rakes and hoes to prevent them from falling.
When storing lawn mowers and garden furniture, drain any fluids prior to storage in order to prevent corrosive damage.
Cover mattresses and store them flat where possible.
Store furniture carefully on boards or pallets, to let air circulate.
Use protective covers and treat wood surfaces before storing.
Store smaller items like pots and pans inside larger appliances such as stoves and refrigerators.
When storing appliances leave all doors open to ensure adequate air flow.
When storing business files, label all boxes and construct aisles so files are easily seen and accessible.
Label all boxes and try not to pack unlike items together.
